INSTALLATION AND USE OF AP TUNER 3:06 (windows)
AP-Tuner can be installed and used indefinitely without charge, and is better than several other tuning programs which cost money. You need a built-in microphone or one that you plug into the microphone jack on your computer.
Installation
To download the program click here and right-click on the download icon. If you have problems, contact us.
Using the software
Open the application in the usual way. To use it without paying or sign-up, choose “Evaluate AP Tuner 3”.
(The program can be used and distributed freely, but if you are enthusiastic and want to support publishers, you can go to their website and see how you can pay 35 USD).
You can begin to use the software right away.
1 indicates the energy level of the incoming signal, in other words how much sound the microphone is picking up.
2 indicates which note you are now playing (the higher the number the higher the octave – the zitheroo’s notes range from G4 the lowest note up to G6 which is the top string)
3 show in hundredths of a note (“cent”) if the note is too high (+) or low (-)
4 shows with a pointer if the note is too high (to the right) or low (to the left)
5 shows the notes in relation to a chosen instrument (in the picture a guitar with E2 as the lowest and E4 as the highest string) – to set up for the zitheroo read on)[/box]
Set up AP-tuner for the zitheroo You do not need to make these settings but may if you wish.
To resize the image so you see better
The AP-tuner window is like any other: pull in one corner to make it larger or smaller.
If “spinning numbers” bother you
I am bothered by the over-exactness of the tuner numbers which are constantly shifting in thousandths of a note. To improve this: Go to the “View” menu, choose “cents label” and then choose “round to 1 cent” instead of 1/10 cent.
If you want to see the zitheroo notes/strings as a preset instrument (instead of guitar) Choose “edit note presets” on the “note” menu.
- Choose “new” and name it “zitheroo” in the left column and
- type (or copy and paste) the following in the right column: G4, A4, B4-C5, D5, E5-F5, G5, A5, B5-C6, D6, E6-F6, G6
- Choose “save”, go to the “note” menu again and under “note preset” choose “zitheroo”.
Now you should see all the zitheroo strings on the right side, from G4 up to G6, and when you pluck a string you should see blue highlighting around that string name on the right side. In this way you can get an overview of where you are.
Tips if you wish to be very exact and have a tuning fork
If you want to check the correctness you can use a tuning fork and see if AP-tuner reflects the correct frequency. If not, this may depend on your sound card. You can correct this by following advice in AP-tuner’s help files: under “recording options”, choose “sound card calibration (advanced)”. It is easy to adjust and you need only do it once.
GOOD LUCK!
Remember that only VERY SMALL ADJUSTMENTS are needed when you tune,
and always pluck the string when you adjust the tuning pegs – then changes can be heard by you and AP-tuner.
TIPS: For easier tuning, order a T-shaped tuning tool with wooden grip from us!
